Pakistan’s Election 2013

Despite violence, People went on to polls and casted their votes on Saturday. The election marks the first time in Pakistan’s 65-year history with 86 million people eligible to vote, that a civilian government has completed its full term and handed over power in democratic elections. Previous governments have been toppled by military coups or sacked by presidents allied with the powerful army. Since its independance, the nation has experienced three military coups, and been ruled by generals for half its life and remains mired in political turmoil.
